Air Operated Diaphragm Pumps

Air operated diaphragm pumps are designed to pump thick slurries & solid-laden liquids in applications such as dewatering and mining. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of air operated diaphragm pumps from brands like Aro, Sandpiper, Flojet, Versa-Matic. Standard-duty Sandpiper air-diaphragm pumps are ideal for dewatering & pumping slurries, solvents, abrasive fluids, weak acids & suspended solids in petrochemical and food processing plants. These pumps are designed to operate on a continuous supply of compressed air and feature aluminium / cast iron / stainless steel / non-metallic construction to ensure structural rigidity. The brand's self-priming double-diaphragm pumps feature ball check valves for withstanding consistent fluid flow and connecting rods for reliable & consistent diaphragm control. These all-bolted, shear-sensitive air diaphragm pumps are offered in flange and NPT connection styles. Air-operated double-diaphragm pumps from Versa-Matic are ideal for easy & safe transport of chemicals & other fluids. These diaphragm pumps feature leak-free bolted construction for superior chemical resistance, with multi-position foot mounts & multiple ported manifolds offering installation flexibility. They can withstand temperatures up to 275 degrees F and have operating pressures ranging between 100 & 125 psi. Raptor Supplies offers a wide range of air operated diaphragm pumps in heights ranging from 10-3/64 to 16-61/64 inches.

Working Mechanism

  • These air operated diaphragm pumps separate the liquid chamber from the air chamber within the pump.
  • Inlet and outlet air valves control the flow of compressed air into the air chamber of the pump. When the pump is at rest, both diaphragms are in a relaxed state, and the inlet valve is open while the outlet valve is closed.
  • To begin the pumping cycle, compressed air is introduced into the air chamber behind one of the diaphragms. This causes the diaphragm to flex inward, creating a vacuum within the liquid chamber. The vacuum draws liquid into the pump through the inlet check valve.
  • As one diaphragm flexes inward and draws in liquid, the opposite diaphragm simultaneously expands outward, pushing the liquid out through the outlet check valve. This movement creates a pulsating flow of liquid.
  • Once the first diaphragm completes its inward stroke and the liquid is discharged, the air valves switch positions. The inlet valve closes, and the outlet valve opens, allowing compressed air to act on the second diaphragm.
  • The process repeats as the second diaphragm flexes inward, creating a vacuum to draw in more liquid, while the first diaphragm pushes out the previously drawn liquid. This alternating action creates a continuous flow of liquid.
  • The double diaphragm design ensures balance and symmetry in the pumping process. As one diaphragm contracts, the other expands, minimizing stress and wear on the diaphragms and providing smooth and consistent flow.

Features

Dayton Double Diaphragm Pumps :

  • These air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps have cast iron construction for structural rigidity and wear resistance.
  • They are equipped with spring assisted air valves that do not require lubrication for rapid discharge of the media present in pipelines.
  • These air operated diaphragm pumps can run dry and have the capability to pump solvents, slurries & high viscosity liquids such as waste oils & paints.
  • They feature NPT, flange and tri-clamp connections for secure seals and transportation of liquids with minimal risk of contamination.

Sandpiper Double Diaphragm Pumps :

  • These AODD pumps act along the entire surface of the diaphragm, keeping it balanced while pumping, which substantially extends pump life as compared to that of mechanically operated diaphragm pumps.
  • They come with a flooded suction feature that allows outdoor mounting and pumping of viscous fluids.
  • These air operated diaphragm pumps offer flow rates of 4, 42, 106 and 135 GPM for dispensing fluids.
  • They provide a screened inlet option for making the filtration process efficient when the pumps are submerged under water, where sediments and debris are very common.

ARO Double Diaphragm Pumps :

  • They are ATEX-certified diaphragm pumps for medium-viscosity fluids used in chemical processing industries and water / wastewater treatment plants.
  • These ARO pumps feature an unbalanced valve design that eliminates the occurrence of valve centring and pump stall-out even when the inlet pressure is very low.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can these pumps be used for metering or dosing application?

Yes, they can be used for metering. For precise dosing, accessories like pulsation dampeners and stroke adjustment controls may be required.

How to maintain these air operated diaphragm pumps?

Routine maintenance includes inspecting diaphragms for wear, checking valves, and tightening connections. Lubrication may be necessary, depending on the pump design.

Can these Sandpiper pumps be used in dry run situations?

These AODD pumps can be safely dry-run and deadheaded without causing any damage to the pump or system.

What is the maximum suction height that these double diaphragm pumps offer?

Sandpiper pumps can continuously pump fluids even if situated out of the pit and offer a maximum suction lift of 9.8 m.
