These pumps come handy when the primary pump fails due to mechanical failure, power outages or excessive use. They feature an automatic start facility to handle abrupt motor failures and a monitoring system to regulate the power supply and battery life. Selected models further come integrated with a computer-programmed battery charging system to keep the batteries fully charged at all times and keep a check on minimal water loss.

A battery-operated sump pump works by using a rechargeable battery to power the pump motor. When the primary sump pump fails or there is a power outage, the battery-operated pump is activated and begins pumping water out of the sump pit.
