Below-the-Hook Lifting Magnets

Below-the-hook lifting magnets are used for safe lifting of iron and steel parts without using hooks, slings or cables. Raptor Supplies offers a wide variety of below-the-hook lifting magnets from brands like Eriez, Dayton, Mag-Mate, Techniks and Vestil. These below-the-hook lifting magnets are generally mechanical, but can also be operated hydraulically, pneumatically and electronically. Dayton below-the-hook lifting magnets are designed to be used with a spreader beam for handling pipes, bars and long plates. These permanent magnets are constructed with neodymium / boron / iron to ensure high strength & low maintenance cost and are capable of handling loads up to 2500 lb. Techniks rare earth magnets are used both individually and in series with a spreader beam for handling billets, steel plates, blocks & containers. They feature neodymium construction for higher strength and resistance against demagnetisation. These magnets can be operated even without electricity and can resist temperatures up to 176 degrees F. Choose from a wide range of below-the-hook lifting magnets, available in lengths ranging between 4.75 and 22.81 inches on Raptor Supplies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the lifting standards of below-the-hook lifting devices?

The ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) has established standards for below-the-hook lifting devices and provides guidelines for construction, marking, installation, inspection, testing, maintenance and operations. This standard is incorporated where lifting magnets are used for single or multiple steel piece handling, wherein the operator is required to manually position the lifting magnet on the load and guide it during the movement or in close proximity to people.

What are ceramic magnets?

Ceramic magnets are composed of Strontium Ferrite (SrFe) in a sintering process and are ideal for electronic, automotive, medical, mining, industrial, oil industries and more. These magnets have a medium strength with high resistance to demagnetisation, offering long-time stability & low brittleness (can be cut with the diamond-tipped blade only). They can withstand temperatures up to 480 degrees Fahrenheit.

What is a design factor?

Design factor is defined as the amount of lifting value a magnet is labelled versus the lifting value under ideal conditions. Design factors are a minimum of 2:1 and in most cases 3:1.
