Coalescing Filter Elements

SPEEDAIRE coalescing filter elements are intended to force small droplets to crash into other droplets and coalesce into larger drops. They consist of several progressive layers which separate solid particles to liquid molecules from a gas flow. These filter elements feature a microglass media rated for 0.01-micron filtration. Choose between compressed air filter and pneumatic types of these filter elements, available on Raptor Supplies.

Features

  • Speedaire carbon air filter elements are used to remove odours and impurities from compressed air.
  • They feature an activated carbon filter that traps particles as small as 0.01 microns, leaving clean air to pass through.
  • They include microglass filter elements that are designed to remove a large percentage of contaminants from fluids and gases.
  • Speedaire filter element features a sponge media that captures debris, dirt and other impurities from liquid or gas. This media serves as a pre-filter to protect the downstream coalescing element from fouling and damage.

Working Mechanism

  • These coalescent filter elements have a three-layer design that removes oil and liquid particles from compressed air.
  • As the fluid enters a coalescent filter element at the inlet and passes through the first layer of filter media, large particles & debris are removed.
  • The fluid then flows through the second layer of filter media having fibres that are highly porous and which trap small droplets and particles.
  • When these droplets and particles come in contact with the fibres, they are held in place by mechanical and electrostatic forces. These particles & droplets are then combined into larger droplets at this stage.
  • At last, the fluid passes through the last layer of filter media, where it is separated from droplets & particles captured by the filter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is meant by coalescing?

Coalescing is a process that combines small droplets of liquid or solid particles into larger droplets or particles that can be easily separated and removed from the gas or vapour stream.

How often should coalescing filters be replaced?

The frequency of filter element replacement will depend on factors including the quality of the compressed air, the volume of compressed air being processed and the specific application. However, filter elements should be replaced when the pressure drop across the filters reaches a certain level, typically between 10 and 15 psi.
