Profile gauges or contour gauges are used for recording the cross-sectional shape of a surface. Johnson contour gauges come with a set of steel or plastic pins, which are set tightly against one another in a frame, to maintain the parallellity and facilitate independent movements. They feature a stamped steel body with ruled edges and stainless-steel contour wires to measure depths up to 3 inches.
