Heavy-duty slide hammers are used to deliver a powerful impact to an object and remove bearings, gears, oil seals and other small parts from inaccessible areas. These slide hammers feature a long metal round shaft with a handle, at one end, and an attachment point on the other end, a heavy cylindrical weight that slides along the shaft and a stop that impacts the targeted end. Attach the slide hammer to the wheel bearing, then yank the weight towards the handle to give an extra snap of weight to the stuck bearing while you pull on the T-handle. This transfers the force to the shaft, pulling the attached end and the wheel bearing in the desired direction. Repeat the action until the bearing is removed. For tougher projects, using a lubricant is advised.
