Pipe Locators

Pipe locators are designed for locating underground pipes / tubing & ferrous objects in confined areas & tough-to-reach spaces. Raptor Supplies offers a wide array of Ridgid, CST/berger & Rothenberger pipe locators. Selected models feature built-in ON/OFF, sensitivity & volume controls for hassle-free calibration, easy access battery compartment and waterproof housing. Choose from an extensive range of these pipe locators, along with various transmitters & scout locators, on Raptor Supplies.

Working Mechanism

  • Turn on the pipe locator and select the appropriate frequency for the type of pipe or cable you are trying to locate.
  • Attach the transmitter to the pipe or cable by connecting the wires from the transmitter to the pipe or cable.
  • Set the transmitter to the appropriate power level, which is determined by the depth and length of the pipe or cable.
  • Insert the transmitter into the ground at the starting point of the pipe or cable you want to locate.
  • Turn on the transmitter and allow it to emit a signal into the ground. The signal will travel along the path of the pipe or cable.
  • Walk along the path of the pipe or cable with the receiver. The receiver will pick up the signal emitted by the transmitter and indicate the location of the pipe or cable.
  • Adjust the sensitivity of the receiver to optimise the strength of the signal.
  • Mark the location of the pipe or cable as indicated by the receiver.
  • Repeat the process as necessary to locate other sections of the pipe or cable.
  • When finished, turn off the transmitter and receiver, disconnect the wires from the pipe or cable, and store the equipment in a safe place.
  • Sonde / line locators are used to locate non-metallic pipes PVC or HDPE pipes, fibre optic cables, electrical lines and ductwork. They detect a radio signal transmitted by a small device called a sonde or transmitter that is attached to the end of a pushrod or cable.
